Is this right or does it miss the mark?
I bumbled across this video recently and I wonder about it. It’s created by the Ad Council, which means there’s money behind it - it’s not some concoction of a random teacher or student at some school somewhere. They’re responding to what has become a top fear for parents - the online life of their children. I have seen many incidents where students are not being careful enough about how they portray themselves online. A few cases do involve young folks putting up inappropriate pictures, but usually it’s a matter of bullying, inciting others to anger, or boasting inappropriate behavior (which is sometimes illegal activity and other times as simple as a picture of themselves flipping the bird).
That is to say, I think the message this video wants to portray is important, but I think this particular video misfires in important ways. But I’m not going to tell you what those ways are - I’m more interested in seeing if you agree with me and if your observations are similar to mine.
(Don’t forget to link back to this article so I and others can find you! - and yes, I’ll throw some extra credit your way if you write this.)
